Retirees Club Welcomes Newcomers

The IAM encourages each local to establish a retirement club. Local 1759 and Local 1747 began the process of forming a club in March, 2002. We extend an invitation to all retirees to join us.

The club will be a good source of information for both our current and future retirees. You will benefit from the experience and knowledge of those who have already faced the challenges that you may be dealing with now or in the future. Membership will also help smooth the transition from the working world to the retired world. You will have access to people who have already made the transition.

The retirees club will partner with other local retirees clubs to bring pressure on our elected officials in support of issues important to retirees such as health care and taxation.

The club also plans to sponsor outings, picnics and other events that would be open to members and their families.

We invite and welcome all retirees to come out and join us. The more that come out, the better. We meet on the third Monday of each month at 11:00 a.m. at IAM Local 1759, 1037 Sterling Road, Suite 103 in Herndon, Virginia.

For additional information call 703 318-8487. I look forward to having you join us.

John B. Adams, Sr.
President, Local Retirees Club

Retiree Health Insurance News

The Commonwealth of Virginia will pay 65% of the COBRA health insurance premium (no dental) for retirees who are residents of Virginia.  They will pay 65% of your COBRA premium for March and April.

 That’s a LOT OF MONEY!!

Virginia retirees can email anna.wright@vec.virginia.gov or call her at 1-804-225-4388 and ask for the Gap Filler Application.  She will email or snail mail the one page form, which has to be returned to her, along with copies of the same information that you sent in when applying for HCTC.  The application and copies can be mailed or faxed to Ms Wright at 1-866-484-8130

Ms Anna Wright must have these forms by March 31 for you to take advantage of the 65% money on your COBRA payments.

I just got off the phone with Anna Wright. She asked me to forward this email info. to any & everybody living in the state of Virginia who is retired & in the same boat registering with COBRA & HCTC.

If you call Anna Wright and leave an area code & phone #, she WILL get back with you.  It MAY be in the evenings but she promises to call back.  The forms you need can be downloaded & faxed to her but it MUST BE DONE BEFORE MARCH 31st!!!!!

Another important bit of information is to be sure to write in BIG, BOLD LETTERING your SS# at the bottom right-hand corner of EACH SHEET that you send to COBRA or HCTC.  They only know you by that number.

This is a gap grant to cover the 65% HCTC payment for the months of March '05 & April '05 only.  It will be sent to you & you will need to add the 35% payment (KEEPING A COPY OF YOUR CHECK IS IMPERATIVE!!!  THIS IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT TO START A TRANSACTION WITH THE GOVT) & send it to Ceridian COBRA with the same 4 documents that she mentions.
